Just weeks after Tarek El Moussa found out he had thyroid cancer in 2013, he got another terrifying diagnosis, and now, he’s going public with his illness for the first time. The ‘Flip or Flop’ star also battled testicular cancer three years ago, and reveals why he’s finally come forward and shared the news with his fans. Watch here.
Tarek El Moussa went through even more than we could’ve imagined in 2013 and 2014. The HGTV personality was open about his struggle with thyroid cancer, which he discovered after a fan noticed a lump on his neck, but it’s taken him until now to open up about his second diagnosis with testicular cancer.
“Getting the thyroid cancer was hard enough, and then a few weeks later, finding out I had testicular cancer, I literally thought I was going to die,” Tarek admitted on the Today show Feb. 21. “I didn’t wan to come out with it [at first]. It was more of a personal thing. For me, the reason I’m coming out is for awareness. When I came out that I had thyroid cancer, a lot of people also found out they had thyroid cancer, so I feel it’s something I had to do.”
Of course, at the time, Tarek had an incredible support system in his wife, Christina El Moussa. Now, the pair is infamously going through a highly-publicized split. “We tried the counseling and it just really wasn’t working,” he explained. “But it doesn’t mean we’re not going to remain friendly. The number one goal is to co-parent our children.
On the very same day, Christina also did a sit-down on Good Morning America, where she confirmed that filming Flip Or Flop has continued and is going well. Tarek echoed those sentiments. “I’m not going to lie — I’m not going to say it’s easy,” he said. “Like anything, there’s challenges in life. We love filming, that’s our job. We’ve been doing it a long time and we love releasing a good product for our fans. We’re just trying to figh through it and do the best we could and I think it turned out great.”
