In a galaxy far far away… many years ago, there was a young Han Solo. Walt Disney just revealed the first look at the still untitled standalone flick, focusing on the group’s journeys before ‘A New Hope.’
Principal photography on the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story officially began on February 20th at Pinewood Studios in London, and the first photo is living up to the hype.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directors on the film, along with a star-studded cast: Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Joonas played Chewbacca in multiple scenes of The Force Awakens when Peter Mayhew could not, due to medical reasons.
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Phil and Chris said in the press release on Tuesday. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
Donald, who is having an extremely busy year, recently met up for lunch with the original Lando, Billy Dee Williams. Afterward, Billy revealed that in his mind, he’ll always relate to Lando. “Lando has been very much a part of my life for over 30 years. When I go out and do conventions and stuff like that, even though people know me from all the other things that I’ve done, certainly [Lando] takes precedence,” he told THR. “I just never thought of anybody else being Lando. I just see myself as Lando… I’m not saying goodbye to that character. It’s still very much a part of my life. I created that character.”
The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is slated for release on May 25, 2018.
