Bonjour! Emma Watson shows off her singing voice in the opening scene from the live-action ‘Beauty & the Beast.’ In just this clip alone, Emma proves she’s perfect for the role of the book-loving Disney princess.
In the scene, Emma Watson belts out the lyrics to “Belle,” the song that introduces us to the Disney princess. Belle walks through her busy French village to return a book. Emma’s singing sounds incredible! She’s got all the spunk and confidence needed to play Belle.
The opening scene is one of the most iconic scenes in the 1991 original movie, so there’s a lot of expectation to get it right. The live-action movie makes a few changes in the scene, but the core of the scene is the same.
We’ve only heard a snippet of Emma singing in a previously released trailer, so releasing this scene is a real treat. This will be the first acting role to feature Emma showing off her singing chops. Once again, Emma proves she can do anything she sets her mind to — just like Belle!
It’s hard to believe Emma could have possibly played another Disney princess. Before being cast as Belle, she turned down the lead role in Disney’s live-action Cinderella. “She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded,” Emma told Total Film about why she wanted to play Belle. “And that’s the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice.”
Beauty & the Beast will be released in theaters on March 17. Emma will star alongside Dan Stevens, who plays the Beast. The movie also stars Josh Gad, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellen, Audra McDonald, Kevin Kline, and Ewan McGregor.
