‘This Is Us’ doesn’t return until 2017 and left fans with one heck of a cliffhanger: Is Toby dead? Mandy Moore talked to reporters, including HollywoodLife.com, about what’s going to happen to Toby and teased more scenes of Jack and Rebecca before the triplets came along.
“Obviously, I am pulling for Toby and I will say that the next episode there will be some sort of resolution,” Mandy Moore, 32, told reporters at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Dec. 11. “But also for our characters when we go back to the moment where Jack and Rebecca find out they are having triplets and not just one baby! It is pretty crazy!”
The midseason finale of This Is Us ended with Toby having a heart attack after flying across the country to spend Christmas with Kate and her family. He was left fighting for his life on the operating table. The show has never shied away from death — Jack is dead in the present day — but this is the first time the show has really got up close and personal with the possibility.
Mandy admitted she was shocked when she read the midseason finale script, just like fans were when they saw the episode. “It was pretty… very surprising!” she said. “But again you don’t have to much time to think about it. We pretty much find out what happens next when you guys do!”
Mandy was nominated for a 2017 Golden Globe, alongside co-star Chrissy Metz, 37, for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series. Both of them totally deserved the nomination after their incredible performances as Rebecca and Kate Pearson. Let’s hope one of them goes home the winner! This Is Us season 1 will return Jan. 10 on NBC
