Ever since Donald Trump was elected president, he’s been under major public scrutiny regarding whether or not he’d leave his business to run the country. Now, the president-elect has finally succumbed to the pressure and confirmed he’ll be leaving the Trump Organization to completely focus on his presidency.
It’s official: Donald Trump, 70, will no longer run his business once he becomes president. “I will be holding a major news conference in New York City with my children on December 15 to discuss the fact that I will be leaving my great business in order to fully focus on running the country in order to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he tweeted on Nov. 30. “While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as President, to in no way have a conflict of interest with various businesses. Hence, legal documents are being crafted which take me completely out of business operations. The Presidency is a far more important task!”
This announcement comes following weeks of discussion about whether or not it’d be a conflict of interest for Trump to run the country and his business. And while there’s been no confirmation regarding what will happen to the Trump Organization, Donald’s lawyer previously revealed that the 70-year-old’s children, Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, will take over through a blind trust.
While it’s been rumored that Ivanka might be part of her father’s team in the White House, she’s confirmed that her role in his presidency will be as a “daughter,” so it certainly would not be a surprise if she decides to take over a large role in the business instead. We will update you on the official details after the Dec. 15 press conference.
HollywoodLifers, are you surprised that Donald is leaving his business? Or did you expect he would do so?
