Ouch! Derek Carr’s hand got mangled during the Oakland Raiders’ game against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 27. The Raiders’ star quarterback was in ‘the most pain’ in his life, as his pinky was bent in the wrong direction! Is Derek all right? Click to watch.
Derek, 25, seemed to dislocate the pinky on his throwing hand during the third quarter of the game, according to Yahoo Sports. After taking a screwed-up snap, Derek walked away while wincing, as his damaged digit was dangling the wrong direction. Derek jogged to the sidelines and was taken into the locker room, while backup quarterback Matt McGloin, 26, took over.
Before the injury, Oakland was up 24-7. The Raiders seemed to take a huge morale blow with their star player getting injured, as Carolina would score twice while Derek was away. Thankfully, he would return after missing just a handful of plays, wearing a black glove to protect his damaged pinky.

Though Derek needed time to adjust to the glove (and to the fact that his finger was bent at a completely gross angle) he rallied the Raiders. In the fourth quarter, he led a 10-play drive for 75 yards, connecting to Clive Walford, 25, for a touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, Derek was given a chance to rest while the defense held Carolina back, handing the Raiders the 35-32 win.
“It was probably some of the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life,” Derek said afterwards, according to NBC Sports. “I had a lot of questions at first. Once I asked those questions and they gave me answers, there was no doubt in my mind [I was coming back].”
While the Raider Nation was scared their star player was done for the game (and potentially the season) his teammates never lost faith. “He has a lot of toughness,” Amari Cooper, 22, said after the game. “I didn’t doubt that he would come back and play. I asked him if he was going to play. He was like, ‘Duh’”
Derek better bring his toughness to the Dec. 4 game against the Buffalo Bills. While the Raiders are assured a spot in the NFL 2016 Playoffs, the Bills are still fighting for a shot. Derek only has nine uninjured fingers left – he can’t afford to lose another.
What do you think about Derek’s injury, HollywoodLifers? Gross, right? Are you amazed that he came back and won the game?
