Spring isn’t always full of sunshine and rainbows. On the second episode of the ‘Gilmore Girls’ revival, Rory’s love life gets even more complicated, Lorelai faces some tough truths, and Rory struggles to make things happen in her career.
Lorelai and Emily are going to therapy. Never thought I’d see the day. Lorelai breaks the deafening silence by apologizing. It’s a generic apology, so Emily isn’t having it. She wants specific apologies. There’s 40 years of baggage in that room. One therapy session is not going to get it all out.
Over in Stars Hollow, Taylor is throwing the International Food Festival. Rory runs into Lane, Mrs. Kim, and Jackson! There’s even a basket bidding just like old times!
Rory heads back to London to work on her book with Naomi. She’s still seeing and staying with Logan. Mitchum joins them for lunch and drops the bombshell that Logan is engaged to a woman named Odette! Now that’s awkward…
Lorelai calls Rory in the middle of the night after having a dream about the real Paul Anka. Rory is still staying with Logan, even though he’s engaged. Rory refuses to tell Lorelai about Logan. Come on, Rory!
Lorelai and Emily’s second therapy session starts on a good note. Emily cracks up as Lorelai tells a funny story. But then things turn sour. Emily is still holding a grudge against Lorelai for leaving and taking Rory away all those years ago and only coming back for money. She has never forgiven Lorelai for the letter she received from her on her birthday. The thing is, Lorelai doesn’t know about the card. She says she never wrote it.
Emily invites Luke over to dinner at the house and only Luke. He shows up with Lorelai. Emily pulls Luke aside and reveals that Richard left money in his will for Luke to expand and franchise his diner. She later takes Luke to look at restaurants. At the end of the day, Emily wants Lorelai to taken care of long after she’s gone.
Back To Chilton
Rory goes back to Chilton with Paris to make speeches to fellow students. When Rory’s speaking to the kids, it’s clear she would make an incredible teacher. Meanwhile, Paris is scaring the rest of Chilton half to death. On their way out, Paris swears she sees Tristan flirting with a girl. She runs into the bathroom and has a classic Paris meltdown. Francie even comes in at one point and Paris lets her have it. Before she leaves, Headmaster Charleston tells Rory she should get her Master’s degree so she can come back and teach. The look on her face reveals she’s considering it.
Rory calls Logan while babysitting Paris’ kids. Even though it’s the middle of the night, he still answers for Rory. She doesn’t want to have to do this, but she asks Logan if Mitchum can still put in a good word for her at Conde Nast. Logan says it’s not a problem.
Lorelai heads to therapy without Emily. Emily has decided she doesn’t need it anymore. Lorelai gets the chance to open up about Richard’s death. His last words were: “Get the hell away from me.” She also talks about Luke. She admits her marriage to Christopher was a mistake. “It was always supposed to be Luke,” a tearful Lorelai says.
Lorelai tags along with Rory for a quick trip to New York City. Rory has a one night stand and freaks out when she gets back to her hotel room. She has no career, no boyfriend. Yes, there’s Paul, but he doesn’t count. Rory confesses that she’s been seeing Logan while she’s in London. She’s clearly not OK with his engagement. Things get worse for Rory when she goes to her Sandee Says interview. She bombs it and doesn’t get the job. The end of the episode features Rory moving back home.
