Happy Thanksgiving! It’s time for turkey, family and — of course — the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! The cherished holiday tradition turned 90 years old on Nov. 24 so check out all the amazing highlights from this fantastic event.
Everyone from Al Roker, 62, to Miss Piggy to Pikachu gathered in New York City, New York for the 90th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The festive procession travelled all the way down from 77th Street near Central Park West to 34th Street and 6th avenue, the site of the Macy’s store (and near Macy’s Herald Square.)
With plenty of floats, marching bands, giant balloons (and a special appearance of Santa Claus) the Macy’s parade has it all! It even has some of the hottest stars of music. Miranda Lambert, 33, Sting, 65, Brett Eldredge, Daya, 18, Regina Spektor, 36, Grace VanderWaal, 12, and more were all set to perform during the Thanksgiving Parade, making this both the best and most rockin’ holiday ever!
Of course, everyone wanted to know – what new balloons were making their debut at this year’s parade. While Snoopy is no stranger to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, Charlie Brown hasn’t been seen at the event for four years, according to Time Out New York. Thankfully, ol’ Blockhead returned with his very own balloon. Diary of a Wimpy Kid also was given its own balloon, as were the stars of the new Trolls movie. They’ll join Thomas the Tank Engine, the Red Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger, Hello Kitty and more.
In the ultimate Thanksgiving Throwback Thursday, Macy’s pulled out something special. They made a replica of the very first Macy’s parade balloon, reproducing the 1927 inflatable Felix the Cat that was carried by sticks. What an amazing sight!
3.5 million people are expected to watch the parade in person, according to Fox News, with 50 million more watching from home. With 16 giant balloons, 24 novelty ballonicicles, balloonheads and tyracloons, 26 floats, 12 marching bands, 1,1000 cheerleaders/dancers and more than a thousand clowns, this spectacle is a Thanksgiving extravaganza!
