Eminem’s ex-wife Kim Mathers attempted to commit suicide in October 2015, crashing her car into a pole while driving under the influence. Now, a District Judge has determined Kim’s fate — she was fined, sentenced to twelve months of probation and more on Nov. 22. Get all of the heartbreaking details right here.
Apart from a year of probation, Kim Mathers, 41, also had to pay a $900 fine and will undergo random alcohol and drug testing following her suicide attempt, multiple outlets report. She appeared in court in Shelby Township, MI, before District Judge Douglas Shepherd, and apologized for her actions. “[It was] selfish and destructive,” Kim said, via The News Herald. I didn’t take into consideration the safety of others and the feelings of my family and I’m truly sorry.”
Kim’s attorney, Michael Smith, said in court that Kim has been sober since the car crash, and has attended counseling. “Her life has been a fishbowl,” he said, referring to her highly-publicized relationship with Eminem. “It’s been magnified with anything she does because of who she was married to. It’s unfair, but she understands it, and that goes with the territory,” her lawyer added.
As we previously told you, Kim opened up about her DUI in an interview back in May. “I sat at the end of a road where I knew no one else but me would get hurt,” she revealed. “I drank, I took pills, and I hit the gas and aimed for a pole.” Kim added that Eminem has been supporting her throughout this ordeal: “We’re really close friends. We’re just trying to raise our kids together and make it as normal for them as possible.”
