WHOA! The Chainsmokers and Halsey REALLY brought it with their sexy performance of ‘Closer’ at the 2016 American Music Awards. And while we didn’t see the chemistry we’ve grown used to from them, it was still totally amazing! Oh, and Travis Barker joined them on drums…which was EPIC!
The Chainsmokers and Halsey teamed up to perform “Closer” at the American Music Awards on Nov. 20, and it was totally incredible! The set started off with the guys, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, performing the song, with Halsey joining in on the second verse. We’ve seen some MAJOR PDA between Drew and Halsey in the past, and they noticeably seemed to be keeping their distance from one another as they belted out the hit. But the best part HAD to be when Travis Barker came in to rock out on the drums toward the end of the song!

From the minute “Closer” dropped in the middle of summer 2016, it’s been a surefire hit, quickly climbing straight to the top of the Billboard charts. We’ve seen how sexy Drew and Halsey are when they perform together both at the VMAs and in the song’s music video, and even though we didn’t see that chemistry this time around, we certainly weren’t disappointed.
Meanwhile, besides just the performance, it’s a big night in general for the EDM duo — they’re nominated for the highly-coveted Best New Artist award against other rising stars, Alessia Cara, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Zayn Malik! Seriously?! It could go to any of them! The duo was also up for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group, which went to 21 Pilots, along with Favorite EDM Artist and Collaboration of the Year for their hit “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya. Whoa, that’s certainly not bad for their first trip to the AMAs!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the Chainsmokers and Halsey’s performance? Was it totally perfection…or way too sexy for television?
