The Panthers at 3-6 desperately need to crawl out of the NFC South basement, and they’re only one game behind the Saints, who are tied for second with the Tampa Bay Bucs at 4-5. QB Cam Newton, 27, brought back a little bit of their 2015 magic when he finally brought out the dab after rushing for a TD against the Kansas City Chiefs Nov. 13, but that didn’t help the team as they blew a 17 point lead with two fourth quarter turnovers, handing KC the game 20-17.

The Saints are also licking their wounds after dropping a Nov. 13 heartbreaker against the Denver Broncos at home. Tied 23-23, they were poised to take the lead kicking an easy field goal with just over a minute left, but Denver blocked it and ran the ball back for a two point conversion, winning 25-23 in one of the most exciting finishes of any NFL game this season.

“I think it’s a good thing because all you want to do is get back on the field as fast as you can,” Saints quarterback Drew Brees, 37, said going into the Panthers game. “We’ve got to bounce back and find a way to get a win this week at Carolina.”

Carolina coach Ron Rivera, 54, agreed that he was happy his team would get back on the field for TNF. “That’s one plus,”We don’t have to dwell (on the loss) for very long.” He also knows this game is make or break if they hope to return to the playoffs. “What we’ve done is put our backs completely against the wall. There is no room for error now. What we have to do is we have to go forward. I have to make sure we do that.”
