This is absolutely heartbreaking to see. Shelley Duvall, who once graced our screens in classic movies like ‘The Shining,’ is now battling a severe case of mental illness — and based on these previews from her ‘Dr. Phil’ interview, it’s NOT good. See her shocking transformation here.
Shelley Duvall, 67, is unrecognizable in this first clip from her interview with Dr. Phil, which airs Friday, Nov. 18. The talk show host reveals the beloved actress’ descent into mental illness on his show, and the sneak peek shows just how bad things are for her. “I loved Robin Williams,” Shelley says, of the actor she co-starred in Popeye with. “I don’t think he’s dead.” “Shape-shifting.” “Have, yes.”
When Dr Phil asks his guest where she does think the late comedian is, she answers, “Shape-shifting,” and claims she’s “seen” him in the years after his tragic death. She also alleges she’s being “threatened” by the Sheriff of Nottingham — yep, the Robin Hood character — and admits she’s worried there’s a disc implanted in her leg.
“I’m very sick. I need help,” Shelley reveals at the end of the clip. Dr. Phil assures her that that’s the reason for the sit-down, and we’ll see when the entire interview airs if there’s any progress made in getting her what she needs.
Shelley began her acting career in 1970, and quickly became a star. She’s best known for her roles in movies like The Shining and Popeye, although she has become mostly a recluse since her last role in 2002. Shelley is unmarried and without children, and we are truly heartbroken to see what her life has become.
HollywoodLifers, were you surprised by Shelley’s revelation in her interview? What do you think of her coming forward now? Do you think Dr. Phil will be able to help her?
