This is so sad and shocking. Celebrity hairstylist George Ortiz, who appeared on ‘Project Runway’ from 2006 to 2010, committed suicide with nitrogen gas inside his New York City apartment, police sources said.
George Ortiz, 45, was found in his bed in his NYC apartment by a roommate on November 15. He lived on Riverside Dr near west 151st street.
He killed himself with nitrogen gas and by cutting off his oxygen supply, reports the New York Daily News. According to sources, a hose attached to a nitrogen tank lead to a bag that was taped around his head.
Friends and fans are mourning the hairstylist. Jennifer Noonan Guida wrote on his Facebook page: I don’t understand…Is this true…I’m so sad…He was so much and he shouldn’t be gone. May he do more then rest in peace may he soar above us!!! Remembering you so fondly!”
Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice wrote on Twitter on November 17: “So sad to hear about George Ortiz from @ProjectRunway 🙏🙏.”
The New York Daily News spoke to George’s neighbor, Donald Gatland, 75, who said, “He was a good dude. He was a real nice guy. He’d speak to me, he’d just say hello — he was always singing. He thought he was a tenor. He used to sing high-pitched. He was real friendly.” He added his death was a shock. “Matter of fact, it would seem like it was three days ago me and him was talking, you know, he said hello.”
This is horrific and so sad. We are thinking about his family and friends at this time. May he rest in peace.
