Alex believed he was going to jail on the Nov. 17 winter finale of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ so he made a big decision about his future after saying goodbye to Jo. Plus, Richard demanded answers from Bailey about Eliza’s presence at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Read our recap below!
Just when we thought things couldn’t get any more dramatic for everyone at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, an apartment complex collapsed, leaving hundreds dead and wounded on the Nov. 17 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. On top of rushing to save everyone they could, Alex was also stressing about his upcoming court session, where he would finally be sentenced for beating Andrew to a pulp.
Jo was subpoenaed, so of course, she was terrified that the truth about her marriage would surface. But before she even stepped in court, Alex took a moment to say goodbye to her. He also said he’s sorry for calling her trash, and she shouldn’t ever let anyone say that. “You’re not trash, Jo.” Later, during another run-in in the elevator, Jo finally told Alex that she’s married and why she did it from him for so long. Out of fear that her abusive husband would find her once her testimony goes on public record, she told Alex that she might run away, and if so, he shouldn’t think it has anything to do with him. But he begged her to stay, saying Seattle is where she belongs and Jo Wilson is who she is. And with that in mind, Alex made the ultimate decision to take the plea deal — which would put him in jail for two years — in order to save Jo. But before he could do that, Meredith left him a heartfelt voicemail, pleading with him not to turn himself in. She pretty much said that she can’t go on without him in her life. So who will Alex ultimately choose to make happy? For that answer, we’ll unfortunately have to wait until the show returns on Jan. 19.
When Richard ran into Eliza, he seemed confused — mainly because she said something about him stepping down and working under her management. When she realized he had no idea, she told him to seek out Bailey and talk to her about the situation. And when he did, Bailey confirmed his worst nightmare — Eliza would be managing the program. She cried and said she can’t make decisions based on her personal feelings, but he disagreed. In fact, he said if she doesn’t, then she’s not cut out to be chief! (Ouch.) Maggie also overheard, and asked Jackson if he could do anything to help, seeing as how he’s a board member. And that he did — he got everyone in the hospital together to fight against the potential change.
Furthermore, Amelia seemed to have left a goodbye letter to Owen, but it was hard to tell because their storyline was so minuscule this week. And Eliza flirted with Arizona.
