After 11 years on the show, Special Agent Aaron Hotchner is out. The Oct. 5 episode of ‘Criminal Minds’ served as the final bow for Thomas Gisbon, but it wasn’t until the Nov. 17 episode, that we found out where he went.
At the beginning of the episode, Rossi (Joe Mantegna) announced that Hotch (Thomas Gibson) had not been away on “special assignment” all of this time — he had actually resigned. An investigation had been conducted to find his son’s stalker. While the FBI had been watching the family’s every move, Scratch showed up at Jack’s school, and Hotch had no choice but to protect his family; with that, they both entered Witness Protection. It’s actually not so surprising, as Hotch has always been a family man, so we had a feeling his exit would have something to do with his son. His final request: Prentiss (Paget Brewster) takeover as new bureau chief.
Of course, Thomas Gibson was fired from the show after an alleged fight with a producer, Virgil Williams. After they disagreed on a scene, Thomas explained that Virgil entered a room and started walking toward him. “As he brushed past me, my foot came up and tapped him on the leg,” the actor, 54, told People. “If I hadn’t moved, he would have run into me. We had some choice words, for which I apologized the next day, and that was it. It was over. We shot the scene, I went home – and I never got to go back.”
“It seems like they’re trying to erase me from the show. That hurts. But I’m using this time to be with my kids, and I look forward to what’s next. Maybe I’ll do a comedy, or a play, or direct, or produce,” Thomas told the magazine. “My pride and reputation are hurt, but in the end I know the good work is what people will remember,” he continues. “I just need more opportunities to do good work and be a good guy.”
While the show has brought in Adam Rodriguez and Damon Gupton as season regulars following Shemar Moore‘s departure; they also brought back Paget to the show full time.
