In ‘Survivor,’ no secrets are safe — even between best friends. This week’s episode came down to two huge secrets that came out at the wrong time. However, there were only consequences for one.
Adam was not happy with Taylor and Jay, and was pretty much ready to reveal Taylor’s secret right away (that he was hiding food.) However, he had to keep in mind that Taylor knew about his secret — he could steal someone’s reward in the game.
The reward challenge featured a “schoolyard challenge” — the captains were randomly chosen as Hannah and Chris. Chris definitely chose better for this challenge as their team blew them away, so that group headed to a resort getaway. The winning team — David, Chris, Ken, Taylor, Sunday, Ken and Bret — enjoyed a lot of food and cocktails. While they were away swigging back drinks (Bret mostly), Adam told Jay he was on the bottom — not something the rest of the group was a fan of.
When it came time to compete in a balancing challenge for immunity, two people got the chance to sit out and eat a ton of food and drink beer — Will and Zeke both took that opportunity. After a very long battle, it came down to Taylor and Ken, and they both clearly really wanted it. Ultimately, that extra food didn’t pay off, and Ken won immunity.
The majority decided to split the votes between Taylor and Jay, just in case an idol was played. However, even though Sunday was in the alliance with Jess, she was hoping to get her out — so she told Taylor and Jay their plan. So naturally, the guys ate some of Taylor’s stolen food and Taylor decided to tell Jay about Adam’s secret.
Since Adam did send Figgy home, Jay decided maybe he could use that secret to his advantage — if he told the group that Adam could steal someone’s family visit, they may not want him around. So, during tribal, Jay confessed about his hidden food, and added that Adam helped him bury the food (in reality, she didn’t help him, but he was awake and saw it).
My favorite part of it all was that Jay also kind of threw his “bro” under the bus, saying that he had morals unlike “dumb surfer,” alluding to Taylor. So, who went home? The votes came down to Jay Vs. Taylor — and in the end, Taylor was sent home.
Jay clearly figured out that the rest of the group were splitting the votes, so he voted out Taylor — and he must have known Taylor wouldn’t have thought of that, because he didn’t use his idol.
