First things first, don’t disrespect LeBron James or his business associates. After New York Knicks president, Phil Jackson referred to LeBron’s agent and close friend, Maverick Carter, as part of his ‘posse,’ the NBA star is firing back! The Cleveland Cavs player said he’s ‘got nothing for him’ when it comes to respecting Phil. Watch his intense reaction!
Phil Jackson, 71, just lost all the respect LeBron James, 31, ever had for him. The current New York Knicks president and the man responsible for taking Michael Jordan, 53, and the Chicago Bulls to multiple NBA championships, got himself in some hot water with the King just a few days ago. When speaking to ESPN, Nov. 14, Phil referred to LeBron’s friends and business associates as his “posse” when throwing shade about the Cavs player needing “special treatment.”
LeBron spoke to ESPN himself, Nov. 15, and said “Zero” when asked if he had any previous relations to the longtime NBA legend. “No relationship at all. I had nothing but respect for him as a coach for what he was able to do. Obviously he was at the helm of my favorite player of all time, MJ, (Michael Jordan), and also being there growing up and watching him with the Lakers, but I got nothing for him.” OUCH!
The clip cuts to another part of LeBron’s reaction, where he continued, “To use that label, and if you go and read the definition of what the word ‘posse’ is, it’s not what I’ve built over my career, and it’s not what I stand for. It’s not what my family stands for. And I believe the only reason he used that word is because it’s young African American trying to make a difference.”
A reporter for ESPN, Dave McMenamin, tweeted an extended portion of LeBron’s take on the situation:
LeBron on Phil Jackson: "I had nothing but respect for him as a coach …"
Q: "Had respect?"
Q: "Until now?"

Everything started when Phil did a Q&A with ESPN‘s Jackie MacMullan, Nov. 14. His quote (below), is what got him on LeBron’s bad side. Phil said: “It had to hurt when they [The Miami Heat] lost LeBron. That was definitely a slap in the face. But there were a lot of little things that came out of that. When LeBron was playing with the Heat, they went to Cleveland and he wanted to spend the night. They don’t do overnights. Teams just don’t. So now (Miami Heat coach Erik) Spoelstra has to text [Pat] Riley (Miami Heat president) and say, ‘What do I do in this situation?’ And Pat, who has iron-fist rules, answers, ‘You are on the plane, you are with this team.’ You can’t hold up the whole team because you and your mom and your posse want to spend an extra night in Cleveland… I always thought Pat had this really nice vibe with his guys. But something happened there where it broke down. I do know LeBron likes special treatment. He needs things his way.” Oh no…
Before LeBron’s heated reaction, his agent and good friend, Maverick Carter, responded to the “posse” comment, claiming it was a “disrespectful” term. In a series of tweets, he voiced his disgust with the use of Phil’s “language.”
