Curious to know if your daily hair habits are to blame for your damaged locks or color fading fast? We quizzed the experts behind Rihanna and Melania Trump’s hair to find out the most common hair mistakes we should all quit making now. Click ahead for their top three tips!
We’ve totally been guilty of skipping the sulfate-free shampoo a few weeks after a color appointment or not using a heat-protecting spray before we curl our hair, but what about the things you do every day that are actually harmful?
Yusef, the hairstylist behind Rihanna‘s ever-changing looks and Melissa Peverini, Cricket Co. ambassador and hairstylist to Melania Trump shared their biggest hair don’t to cut out of your beauty routine, STAT.
1) Don’t wash your hair every day: “This can strip your hair of its natural nutrients and oils,” Yusef said, adding that what you wash your hair with also matters. “When you do shampoo, I always recommend using a moisturizing shampoo with natural ingredients like MOP C-System Hydrating Shampoo, which smells amazing.
2) Don’t get in the shower without brushing your hair: “Your products will not distribute evenly and can leave your hair a tangled mess,” Melissa explained of always giving your hair a brush through before washing. “Try a brush specifically for detangling such as Cricket Co. Ultra Smooth Detangling Brush,” she added.
3) Don’t leave your hair mask on longer than directed: We’ve definitely committed this faux pas, thinking we were doubling up on hair benefits but Melissa says this is a no-no. “Some contain proteins that can do more harm than good, making hair weaker and frizzier; throwing off the moisture balance,” she explained.
