Ivanka Trump played such a key role in her father Donald’s successful campaign for president, so could she now be rewarded with a job in his administration? HollywoodLife.com spoke EXCLUSIVELY to an expert who tells us if she can help her dad run the country.
Despite Donald Trump, 70, being such a polarizing and controversial presidential candidate, we can all agree that his daughter Ivanka, 35, epitomized grace, charm and intelligence throughout his successful run. So can we expect to see her continue to work by her dad’s side now he’s the President-Elect? “No, it is not legal for any of Trump’s children to run the country and run his business at the same time, no. There is a nepotism law so they can’t even be appointed to major posts even if they weren’t running their company,” Jeffrey Tulis, political expert, Government professor at University Of Texas and author of The Constitutional Presidency tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Ivanka has said she’s so passionate about issues such as the wage gap for women and affordable child care and we’d love to see her be able to keep championing those causes. “What Trump’s children can do is be informal advisers where they are unpaid. I don’t think there is a rule against that,” Jeffrey explains. “They can’t have an office or an official position. He can ask them for advice and he can give it to them and that is about it. They could not be put in charge of an agency or a department or anything like that. That would be true even if they gave up their business.”
“Trump can use his children as unofficial advisers and consult with them all the time,” Jeffrey says, which is particularly good that Ivanka has his ear when it comes to women’s issues since he’s stacking his administration with so many conservative alt-right members. But there’s no way she can be appointed to become a member of his cabinet, as “There is a nepotism rule that applies to appointing family members to official positions.”
HollywoodLifers, do you hope Ivanka keeps advising her father on women’s issues? Or should Donald’s kids keep out of the business of running the country? Take our poll and VOTE!
