Is this the end? Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell might not have their happily ever after. The Nov. 15, two-hour special was probably the most emotionally draining episode we’ve ever seen. Lauren wanted to run to the alter, and Ben got cold feet. After intense couples therapy, he called off the wedding! Check out our recap to see what happened.
Ben, 28, and Lauren, 26, aren’t on the same page, let alone the same book, when it comes to their wedding. Lauren is ready to fast-track the whole thing, and Ben is simply, overwhelmed. The tension is definitely causing a strain in their life together. So, what better way to try and resolve your relationship woes than couples therapy… with your Bachelor nation friends…
Lace Morris and Grant Kemp joined Ben and Lauren, as well as, the twins, Emily and Haley Ferguson. Who else thinks the twins should just be series regulars by now? Anyway, all of the couples underwent a various exercises and things got intense. First, they played the newlywed game. While everyone knew their spouse, or sister, so well, Ben and Lauren failed miserably. Let’s just say that foreshadowed what the rest of their luck would be like for the exercises.
Next up — The obstacle course; Because what better way to test your relationship than risking your life walking across a thin, tight-rope, while blindfolded? Yes, that happened. The couples had to talk themselves through the course to complete it, and it was a disaster all around. However, they all managed to complete the course.
Then, the couples got serious. All three pairs talked out their problems in “the hot seat” exercise. Basically, you had to face your partner and just let it all out on the table. Ben finally confessed that he didn’t want to rush into their wedding. Both, he and Lauren just sobbed uncontrollably. This was the first time Ben finally said that “things sped up too fast,” and he didn’t want to get married (so quickly). Ben admitted he didn’t want to wake up one day and say, “what did we do?” Lauren revealed that she felt hurt by his admission, because she thought she did so much for the relationship.
Next up — The fake wedding. What?! Ben and Lauren actually dressed up as if they were getting married. You know, the black tux, and the white dress. Isn’t that bad luck, or something? It must’ve been, because Ben called off the wedding. WE’RE NOT JOKING. Ben felt like they needed to get to know each other more, and he still wasn’t ready. Watch the devastating moment below…
Finally, their therapist suggested to take a long road trip, and to spend so much time together that you have to learn more about each other. Ben purchased a new car (normal), and they took a trip to Las Vegas, where they were guests at the iHeart Radio music festival. Everything seemed like it was going well, until everyone started asking about their wedding. And, then it was back to the drawing board, because they were at each other’s throats again.
On their way back to Denver, you could cut the tension with a knife. Ben and Lauren stopped a diner and met an adorable couple, Ed and Toots, who were married for 70 years. They taught them the meaning of marriage, and what it was to love someone so deeply that you would do anything for them. It honestly felt like we were watching a cheesy Nicholas Sparks movie. Obviously, we loved every second of it. When Ben and Lauren left the diner, it was all sunshines and roses again. Phew! Thanks Ed and Toots.
Ben surprised Lauren with a home makeover when they arrived back in Denver, and all was well in the world again. It looks like the wedding will be on… we hope! And, guess what? the twins are back for next week’s episode! No surprise there, right?
