A “supermoon” occurs when “the moon’s orbit is closest (perigee) to Earth”, according to NASA, and this one happens to be extremely rare — it’s the closest one we’ve had since 1948. Supermoons tend to look 14% bigger and 30% brighter than regular, boring moons.
You get a good look at the Supermoon tonight at around 5:14 PM EST, when it’s due to float above the horizon — be sure to check back at HollywoodLife.com for the live stream!
People totally freaked out about this latest installment in the Supermoon sag (as they should, because it’s epic) “It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…#supermoon!! ….Had to be done,” one user joked. “Started off bit cloudy then it cleared & by luck a plane flew by,” another person tweeted along with some cool pics. What a time to be alive.
Don’t sleep on tonight’s Supermoon, because the next one is projected to happen in another eighteen years, and of course we all might be dead by then.
