Brendan Dassey may finally be getting out of prison! After the ‘Making A Murderer’ subject’s conviction was overturned on Aug. 12, he’s been patiently awaiting word on when he can get out of the big house, and on Nov. 14, a judge finally ordered him to be released! Here’s the scoop.
Oh, happy day! A federal judge ordered that Brendan Dassey, 27, who was featured on the Netflix documentary Making A Murderer, should be released from prison on Nov. 14. The young man has been in jail as an accomplice to the murder of Theresa Halbach since he was 16 years old, and though his conviction was overturned in Aug., he’s spent the last 3 months waiting to be released.
U.S. Judge William Duffin was the man who ordered him to be released. Brendan will be supervised by a U.S. probation officer, cannot leave the country, and cannot obtain firearms. He has just 24 hours to provide the judge with an address where he will be living.
Brendan’s attorney Steve Drizin made it clear that he wants to see Brendan with his family by Thanksgiving Day. “That’s what I’m focused on right now, getting him home, getting him with his family and then helping him to re-integrate back into society while his appeal plays out,” explained Steve. We hope he’s right! The original estimate when the conviction was overturned was 9- days, and it’s been 92 so it’s definitely a long time coming.
Brendan got wrapped up in his uncle Steven Avery’s controversial case when detectives seemingly targeted him. He was learning disabled and the documentary made it seems as though he was easily manipulated into falsely admitting his guilt in the horrifying rape and murder of the young woman.
