The superstar cast of ‘Saturday Night Live’ pulled off another spectacular show on Nov. 12, tackling exactly how America is coping post-election. Kate McKinnon portrayed Hillary Clinton and opened up with a touching rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ to inspire all during this tough time!
Just when the nation is in need of dire inspiration, Saturday Night Live made sure to deliver in a major way with their cold open for the Nov. 12 episode. Kate McKinnon, 32, reprised her stellar Hillary Clinton impersonation for the show, embodying all the shock the nation still feels after the results of the election. While playing the paino, she sang a touching rendition of “Hallelujah” with the lyrics, “I did my best it wasn’t much, I couldn’t feel, I tried to touch.” Kate concluded, “Even though it all went wrong, I’m not giving up and neither should you.” It’s even more poignant since the song is written by Leonard Cohen, who recently passed away. It’s only been a few days since Donald Trump, 70, shockingly won the presidency, so it very much hit home.
Alec Baldwin, who usually portrays Donald has been a long-time naysayer of him, so of course he felt some type of way on Nov. 8, taking to Twitter to voice his mind. He wrote, “The billionaire Republican businessman is close to winning the race and world markets are crashing. He’s all yours, America.” After the stress, viewers couldn’t wait to watch the post-election coverage from SNL. Furthermore, Alec will reportedly no longer be portraying the controversial businessman-turned-politician. He previously hinted that he was going to be hanging up his red power tie after Nov. 8 and we’re guessing he was banking on Hillary winning, like many Americans.
SNL already likely has a new First Lady secured with Cecily Strong, who previously pulled off a hilarious impersonation of Melania Trump, so we’re guessing plenty of fun is still in store. The superstar cast always goes the extra mile with their politically charged skits and we couldn’t be more grateful for their ability to make us laugh, even in tough times. With the nation in divide, NBC wisely secured some A-list talent that would surely bring joy. Dave Chappelle served as the host and completely SLAYED, while A Tribe Called Quest also stopped by for an epic performance!
