The designers are in for a major treat as their loved ones surprise them in the work room and they serve as the inspiration for a two-day challenge with a $50,000 prize — but someone still has to go home this week! Find out who was eliminated on this week’s episode of ‘Project Runway.’
Cornelius is back and Dexter is definitely not happy about it. It is the AARP challenge and the designers are in for a major treat — they get to spend time with some loved ones! As Tim Gunn meets them in the workroom he ushers in the special guests, (who will also serve as the models!), for the challenge. It is such a nice, emotional moment. The designers get two days and $250 looks to create outfits for the next chapter in their model’s lives. From moms to BFFs, these special women certainly make the designers feel more at home. I love seeing the contestants with their loved ones, it brings out such a sweet side.
From the start, Jenni seems to be having trouble with this challenge. She doesn’t have a clear vision and she doesn’t think her mom is giving her much to work with.
It really seems like this is a challenge where Mah-Jing is going to shine — and, of course, he’s going to incorporate some denim, just as Laurence opted for leather as she designed for her daughter.

Roberi is so emotional about getting to see his friend and creates the perfect dress for her — it’s flattering and the way he mixed patterns was so stunning! Although he’s quiet and focused he is consistently in the top and becoming a major competitor in the game — he’s definitely on another level.
Although Erin was the shining star of the show she’s quickly falling from grace and struggling to elevate her looks — no one wants to see a one-trick pony on the runway. While I can see her vision with her lace dress, I have to agree with the judges — it didn’t feel like something her mom would wear but I appreciated her thought process and hearing her mom say that it was even more special because it was the type of look she wouldn’t be able to find in Utah definitely meant something. Had she made a lace pencil skirt and a cool blouse with her signature embroidery and maybe a lightweight trench I would’ve been way more obsessed with this look.
Rik wins the challenge — and they both receive $25,000, for a total of $50,000! How amazing is that? His tweed jacket and thoughtful dress were amazing — he dressed his model to perfection, made her feel confident, and really tackled the task at hand. Bravo!
Erin, Nathalia and Jenni are in the bottom three. Erin is safe. It comes down to Nathalia and Jenni and I’m honestly not sure who is going to get sent home.
From the start Jenni seemed like a stronger contestant with a more distinct idea of who she is as a designer while Nathalia’s looks were less elevated and more all over the place, but Nathalia has shown growth as a designer throughout the competition — and although her outfit for her mom was poorly executed, I could see her vision — Jenni’s, however, was more of a miss for the challenge at hand. Jenni is sent home.
