No one has a more positive approach to government work than Leslie Knope! The cheery ‘Parks & Recreation’ character wrote an open letter to Americans after Donald Trump’s heavyhearted win — and it’s a serious must-read! Check out her hopeful political message, here.
Bummed out by this election? Leslie Knope has the perfect solution! All that’s required are back rubs from friends and endless re-fills of hot cocoa. Surely it doesn’t surprise you that Leslie (a fictional character from Parks & Recreation) began participating in class votes in the 4th grade. Leslie, who was campaigning for Greenie the Tortoise, lost by a LANDSLIDE to Dr. Farts the T. Rex as President of Pawnee Elementary School. She was devastated!
But that’s when Leslie’s teacher stepped in to put things in perspective. “The point of the lesson is: people are unpredictable, and democracy is insane,” she said, referring to the fact that states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania typically vote as blue, Democratic states — but not this time! Donald Trump, 70, a Republican, dominated those states, leaving America in utter shock. “I acknowledge that Donald Trump is the President,” Leslie (played by Amy Poehler, 45) tearfully confesses. “I understand, intellectually, that he won the election. But I do not accept that our country has descended into the hatred-swirled slop pile that he lives in.”
Many (including Leslie) have labelled the winning candidate as a sexist, racist, crypto-fascist, and xenophobic butthole, but that doesn’t mean America is that way. “We figure out how to fight back, and do good in this infuriating world that constantly wants to bend toward the bad,” continues the radiant politician. “And we will be kind to each other, and supportive of each other’s ideas, and we will do literally anything but accept this as our fate.” This is probably going to be an uphill battle, but it’s nothing a little hot chocolate and whipped cream-covered waffles from J.J’s Diner won’t fix.
HollywoodLifers, do you agree with Leslie’s letter and message? Will you stay positive?
