So sad. On the Nov. 10 episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ Meredith, Owen, Stephanie and Richard took on a difficult surgery that brought back painful memories. And the ENTIRE EPISODE took place in the OR. Read our live blog recap below!
As Meredith, Owen, and Stephanie started treating their patient like a pile of organs on the Nov. 10 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Richard swooped in and challenged them to give the patient a personality. That way, they would actually have an attachment to their patient, and in turn, do a better job. Richard suggested they name their patient Gail — a woman who plays the cello, teaches, and has three children. Gail also happened to be his mother. Unfortunately, it didn’t do a lot of good. Meredith still shot down many of Richard’s surgical decisions, and everyone bickered a lot.
So then it was Owen’s turn to personalize the patient, which gave us our first look at Hunt interacting with his later sister, Megan — on the battlefield. But instead of talking about the past, Megan critiqued Owen on everything that’s going on in his present life. More importantly, she convinced Owen to cut the liver out of his patient, despite Meredith’s opposition.
Meanwhile, Stephanie was plagued by memories of her childhood, when she suffered from a chronic illness.
Once they discovered who the patient really was — a father of two named Carl — Meredith recalled painful memories from the moment she learned Derek had died. We also got to see a moment we never saw before — when Meredith told Zola and Bailey that no one could fix Daddy because he’s dead. It was so heartbreaking to watch, but it was a memory Meredith needed to see in order to give the patient on the table her full attention. The painful memory made her work that much harder to save Carl’s life.
And that final scene, where Meredith actually SAW Derek in the operating room (thanks to CGI), gave us all the feels!
