Donald Trump may be the President-elect, but that doesn’t mean people are OK with it. At least 65 protestors in New York City were arrested on Nov. 9 after thousands of them assembled outside Trump Tower and the Trump International Hotel to oppose the election of the billionaire to the highest office in America.
Most of the arrests were made in front of Trump Tower, according to ABC 7. Some protestors climbed light poles and had to be removed, or burned flags. The majority of the protestors arrested were charged with disorderly conduct. Some were also charged with resisting arrest.
Protestors filled the streets around Trump Tower and Trump International Hotel and caused a massive gridlock as police tried to contain the unrest, NBC New York reports. Police were forced to install barricades outside Trump Tower to keep the protestors, who were burning American flags and pictures of Donald, at a distance.
Thousands of protestors started out at Union Square and marched for 40 blocks to Trump Tower, Donald’s New York City home. Actor Mark Ruffalo, 48,, was a part of the protest. “Donald Trump go away, racist, sexist, anti-gay,” protesters yelled. Other protestors screamed, “My body, my choice,” “Not my president,” and “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go.”
The anti-Trump sentiment is still present far and wide across the United States. After he won the presidential election on Nov. 8, celebrities like Anna Kendrick, 31, Chris Evans, 35, Kylie Jenner, 19, and Rashida Jones, 40, and voters flooded social media with their outrage. Miley Cyrus, 23, and Ariana Grande, 23, were in tears after Donald was elected over Hillary Clinton, 69. Millions of Americans are still in disbelief that Donald is our new president, and it’s going to take some time for protestors to accept this new reality and move forward.
