Within hours of Donald Trump officially becoming the next president of the United States, Vladimir Putin congratulated him, and revealed that he’s ready to work with Trump on the Russia/U.S. relationship — and is aware of the work it will take.
“(Trump) spoke about resuming and restoring relations with Russia. We understand the way to that will be difficult, taking into account the current state of degradation of relations between the US and Russia,” Vladimir Putin said in a telegram posted on the Kremlin website. “As I have repeatedly said, that is not our fault that Russia-US relations are in that state. Russia is ready and wants to restore the fully fledged relations with the US. I repeat we understand this will be difficult but we are ready to play our part in it.”
In October, Trump was asked for his thoughts on Russia launching air strikes in the Middle East — and he was standing by Russia. “If Russia wants to go into Syria and bomb the hell out of ISIS. I’m sort of okay with that,” he said at the time. Of course Putin has been in the middle of debate topics during the presidential race, ever since Donald said he thought he’d be friends with Vladimir.
“I think I’d get along very well with Vladimir Putin,” he previously told press in Scotland. “I just think so. People say ‘What do you mean?’ I just think I’d get along well with him.” Well, it looks like he was right. Putin alos told reporters in the past that Trump was “a really brilliant and talented person,” adding that he wanted to “welcome” Trump’s hopes to make a better relationship with Russia.
