Tired of making sketchy late-night phone calls to your weed dealer? Fear not, voters, because California, Nevada, and Massachusetts have all legalized recreational marijuana, with a few other states following their lead. Read all the details on Proposition 64, here!
While voters in Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington have been smoking away on that fresh greenery for years, the rest of the US has been fighting for Proposition 64 to pass! Arizona, Montana, Arkansas, Florida, Maine, and North Dakota are predicted to completely legalize weed, with California, Nevada, and Massachusetts already snagging official YESES! This means anyone 21 years of age and older will be able to walk into a weed shop and buy some. No longer will smokers need a medical excuse or reason to possess marijuana.
Some states like Illnois and Hawaii have already legalized the use of medical marijuana, but a lot of America’s youth (perhaps including Malia Obama) have been demanding more leniency towards the drug. With more and more research backing up the positive effects of weed on the human body, more and more states are leaning towards supporting recreational use. For those of you against Proposition 64, and don’t want to be associated with any type of weed-related business, there are still at least 20 states where the green plant is 100% illegal.
Weed is often said to have milder effects on the body and brain than alcohol, and here’s the biological breakdown to prove it. Research studies indicate that marijuana can help those with glaucoma and seizures, and provides pain relief for headaches and menstrual cramps, according to the Business Insider. Weed also increases appetite (hello, munchies) and helps insomniacs fall asleep. A common stereotype is that weed turns people into lazy, sluggish slobs who chill at home all day, which can be true, but it’s way better than having an angry, violent, and unpredictable drunk behind the wheel of a car.
HollywoodLifers, do YOU think recreational weed should be legalized across the US?
