This is so scary. Shannon Purser tweeted a pic of the razor she used to self-harm with on Nov. 7 and the photo will give you chills just thinking about the suffering she must have gone through. See the picture and read the ‘Stranger Things’ star’s message to her fans.
“*TRIGGER WARNING*,” Shannon Purser, 19, began a tweet she sent out on Nov. 7. “I haven’t self-harmed in years, but I kept this around, ‘just in case.’ I forgot it was there & now it’s in the trash.” The tweet was accompanied by a picture of a small razor blade that Shannon held between her thumb and index fingers, coated in shiny black nail polish. Needless to say, the pic was shocking, and the fact she admitted to a history of self-harm, even more shocking.
Shannon, who plays Barb on Stranger Things, is far from the only person, young or old, who has dealt with a history of self-harm. But the fact that she was strong enough to admit it, especially on a public platform like Twitter, is remarkable. We think it’s so amazing that she’s put herself out there and let the world know that she is no longer hurting herself and has gotten rid of that part of her life. It can only serve to help others in the same situation.
Barb, the best friend of Natalia Dyer‘s character, Nancy, quickly became a fan fave on the show for how adorably nerdy and kind she was. We’re glad that Shannon is using all the positive attention she’s received from the Netflix series to bring awareness to problems that she has struggled with that she knows so many other people suffer from as well.
