It’s Election Day tomorrow, Nov. 8, and there are ample reasons for every young woman and man to vote for Hillary Clinton and not Donald Trump, but here are the 5 most critical.
1. Hillary Has A Plan For Free Or Debt-Free College For Most Students
Donald Trump has no plan for free college tuition or for debt relief for those of you crushed under college loans. Hillary Clinton however, plans to offer families with incomes up to $125,000, free tuition for in-state, four-year public colleges or universities. And, for those who are carrying the burden of huge student loans, she promises that you’ll never have to pay back more than 10 percent of your income. The remaining college debt gets forgiven after 20 years. Phew! That’s a whole lot of relief for a lot of students, their families and for people who are working and trying to pay back their loans.
Donald Trump, in contrast, I repeat, has no plan to help college students. None.
2. Hillary Clinton Will Protect Your Right To Have An Abortion And To Get Birth Control
Don’t you feel like you – not Donald Trump or Mike Pence– should be able to make your own decision about when to have a baby? And, if you have a major medical issue with your pregnancy, that you again should be able to make your own heartbreaking decision, if you must end that pregnancy?
Hillary Clinton believes that these decisions belong to you, not the government. “I do not think the United States government should be stepping in and making the most personal of decisions… [it should have] no business in the decisions that women make with their families in accordance with their faith, with medical advice,” she said in the third presidential debate against Donald Trump.
Hillary said she will stand up in support for the Supreme Court decision called Roe v. Wade, which protects a woman’s right to choose. However, Donald Trump promises to appoint judges who will overturn that decision and make abortion illegal in the US again.
So, you will lose the right to make your own decisions about your reproductive health. Donald Trump also supports defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides health services including birth control counseling and prescriptions to millions of women across the country. After the state of Texas defunded Planned Parenthood, births of babies among low-income women went up 27 percent, as they lost access to birth control. Women also lost access to breast cancer screenings, cervical cancer screenings and screenings for STDs.
Under Trump, women would lose these services across the country.
3. Donald Trump’s Tax Cuts And Other Proposals Like ‘Building a Wall,’ Could Cause A Great Depression
If there is another Great Recession or Depression, that means you might not find a job or could lose your job, or you could find yourself stuck without getting a raise for years. We’ve just recovered from the last recession. Now, Donald Trump promises to reduce taxes “bigly,” but not for you. The vast amount of his $9.5 trillion in tax cuts would go to the 1 percent, not the middle class. You would get a teeny, tiny tax cut, if you get one at all.
Plus, Trump’s plans to build a wall between the US and Mexico, deport 11 million people and impose huge taxes on goods imported from China and Mexico will cost hundreds of billions of dollars, according to the non-partisan group, Moody’s Analytics. All of this will cause a Great Recession, or even depression, Moody’s believes, and that will affect you and your opportunities to find a job you want at a salary you need.
4. Hillary Clinton Will Support Women Against Sexual Harassment — Donald Trump Will Be the Groper-in-Chief
Do you want a president who thinks it’s okay to just kiss any women he wants and who admits that he likes to grab women by their p***y? Don’t you deserve better than that in 2016?
Thirteen women have gone public with claims that Donald Trump sexually assaulted them. In return, he’s called them all liars and has threatened to sue them. He’s also very publicly called women “pigs,” “slobs,” “bimbos” and “dogs.” He insulted Carly Fiorina’s face and Hillary Clinton’s backside. He has described former Fox News CEO Robert Ailes, who was publicly accused of sexually harassing multiple women, including anchor Megyn Kelly, a “good person.”
If Donald Trump becomes president, he will set the tone for how women are treated in the work place, in schools and at home. If the president doesn’t respect women, other men will follow his lead. This will not be good for you or any women in this country.
On the other hand, you can elect the first female president who will fight for pay equity and paid family leave and who has been outspoken about preventing sexual assault on campuses. Hillary also has voiced her plan to provide support for survivors of sexual assault.
5. Hillary Clinton Believes In LGBTQ Rights & Equality – Donald Trump Doesn’t
When Hillary Clinton says that we’ll be “Stronger Together,” she means all of us. All races, ethnicities, religions, and sexual and gender orientations. Hillary promises to fight for full federal equality for LGBT Americans.
Donald Trump and Mike Pence want to repeal marriage equality — in other words, end legal gay marriage. Mike Pence, as governor of Indiana, signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law in 2015. The law allows businesses to discriminate against LGBT people and against religious minorities, like Muslims, Sikhs and Jews.
Do you want a president and vice president who support discrimination or a president who welcomes everyone of every background and orientation in the United States of America?
If you want a country that is welcoming and respectful to women and minorities, and that offers equal opportunity to college and to economic improvements for all and not just for the one percent, then you should vote for Hillary!
Tomorrow is Election Day. Make sure you vote, HollywoodLifers!
