Here are Ruth’s tips:
“1. A bold new ‘do. If you’ve been rocking the same style for a while, try something chic and strong like a classic one-length bob in a rich auburn or deep brunette shade, especially for the fall and winter months. The understated and simple style makes a timeless statement without trying too hard. Keep your fresh deep hues looking extra vibrant with Reviving Red (it’s not only for redheads!).
2. Break up with grey. Nothing can add more years to a look than grey locks. Haircolor is key and balayage or subtle highlights will add the needed dimension. Solid shades, especially dark ones, can lack radiance and vitality.
3. Fringe benefits. Keep bangs long and wispy, and have them trimmed often rather than cutting them shorter to last longer in between salon appointments. A too-short fringe can look utilitarian and less youthful. (The exception to this rule is a very short fringe on a pixie, which is a bold statement style where it works!)
4. Pump up the volume. Hair tends to thin as you age, so use a haircare system specifically designed to keep hair looking and feeling thicker. Ruth’s favorite? The NEW! Fullfyl 3-Step Hair Thickening System, which improves density and texture when used together.
5. Smooth moves. Youthful hair is smooth and shiny, so treat it with a leave-in product to prime and protect like Colour Fanatic Multi-Tasking Hair Beautifier. Remember to always blow-dry with the nozzle moving from roots to ends to smooth down the hair cuticle and increase shine.”
