Eric André is a comedian. That’s a definitive statement. But on November 6 he brought Carolines on Broadway to their knees, sobbing, as he recounted the harrowing tale of a sign he discovered in Cuba. Don’t criticize as THIS, okay?!
Eric André, 33, hosted multiple sold-out shows through the entire November 4 weekend at Carolines on Broadway during the New York Comedy Festival. Perhaps he did not know that his final night would leave the biggest impact. The audience expected a night of laughter and fun, but they were instead treated to the most riveting dramatic performance they may ever experience in their tiny, insignificant lives.
He presented to the audience in the crowded club a simple wooden sign that he discovered on vacation in Cuba, inscribed with maybe the most beautiful poem we’ve ever heard. It’s breathtaking, powerful, and heartbreaking:
If you enter to our kitchen and the she finds it dirty
It is because the one that not scrubs this
and the one that this is not the one that scrubs
and as you he won’t scrub
don’t criticize as this
Are the tears streaming down your faces, too? Maybe you had to be there? The poignant performance Eric gave was so powerful that he declared it would be enough to land him a part as a dead body on Law and Order: SVU. Dun Dun! Eric was also really damn funny. The Eric Andre Show host was just as wild and weird as you’d imagine he’d be live, navigating his way through drunk audience members screaming “legalize ranch!” and still coming out flawlessly.
Another highlight? The bizarre exchange he once had with the boyfriend of an ex-hookup, who really appeared to be the villain from an ’80s teen movie. The dude called him a “one hit wonder” from the girlfriend’s past, and threatened to fight him through lengthy texts, just because Eric texted her.
HollywoodLifers, were you riveted by that “poem” from Eric’s Cuban souvenir? Tell us in the comments!
