So exciting! Mary Keitany won the 2016 Women’s Division of the NYC Marathon on Nov. 6, making it her third consecutive win. So just who is this incredible athlete? We have the five things you need to know about her, here!
1. Mary has won the 2014, 2015 AND 2016 Women’s Division of the NYC Marathon.
Mary Keitany, 34, is a seriously amazing marathon runner who is originally from Kenya! She won the 2014 competition, and again was the victor in the 2015 marathon. Not only that, but this made Mary the first woman to win twice in a row since Paula Radcliffe in 2008. In 2015, Mary finished the race with a truly incredible time of 2:24:25, receiving the $100,000 price and coveted gold medal.
2. She won the 2012 London Marathon with her best time ever.
The London Marathon happens every spring and has become one of the biggest marathon events in the world. Mary SLAYED the competition in 2012 and set her own personal best time, at 1:05:50. Seriously, she won the entire marathon by completing the race in just over an hour, which is absolutely incredible.

3. Mary is married to another amazing Kenyan runner, and they have two children.
Mary and husband Charles Koech are both incredible marathon runners. They welcomed their first child together, son Jared, in 2008. In 2013, the couple welcomed their second child, daughter Samantha. We’re betting that just like their parents, the kids will be some amazing athletes, too!
4. She is part of the “Kenyan Fantastic Four.”
Along with Kenyan marathon runners Edna Kiplagat, Florence Kiplagat and Priscah Jeptoo, Mary is a member of the Kenyan “Fantastic Four,” a group of runners named by numerous news outlets leading up to the 2015 London Marathon. These four athletes are all amazing marathoners, and were heralded by sports reporters leading up the marathon. We love the name, and think it’s totally fitting for Mary and the three other athletes!
5. Mary trains at the Adidas camp in Kenya.
When she’s not slaying the competition in marathons, Mary trains at the Adidas training camp in Iten, Kenya. She is coached by Gabriele Nicola and managed by Gianni Demadonna.
