It took 90 minutes to turn FC Dallas’s MLS season upside down. Dallas was the best regular-season team in MLS, scoring 60 points over an impressive 17 wins. Yet, it took Seattle’s 3 goals in the 3-0 victory to put Dallas at a severe disadvantage. FC Dallas has a 6% chance of advancing, according to ESPN, and the odds aren’t going to get any better.
Without Mauro Diaz, 25, out with an injury, manager Oscar Pareja, 48, tried to employ a weird 5-3-2 formation (three defensive midfielders and two wingbacks, according to MLS.com) that made up for the loss of the star midfielder. It’s safe to say that it didn’t work.
Seattle responded by teaming up with Jordan Morris, 22, and Nicolas Lodeiro, 27, to create a 1-2 punch that was only made stronger with the addition of Joevin Jones, 25. Nicolas scored goals 2 and 3 off of assists from Jordan and Joevin during the first leg of the semifinal, so expect these three amigos to keep the teamwork going.
FCD now needs to score three times in this game while keeping Seattle blasting the ball into the net. Sound easy, right? Seems like Coach Pareja’s gamble put FCD’s MLS Cup chances at risk and Seattle might be on their way to the conference finals.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Who do you want to win this game – FC Dallas or Seattle?
