After a season of playing Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on ‘SNL’, Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon have had it. With just days to go until the presidential election, the comedians broke character and united during the cold open! Click through to watch the incredible sketch!
Playing the warring presidential candidates each and every Saturday has taken a toll on Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin. While their impressions are incredible and spot-on, they had enough by the November 5 episode of Saturday Night Live, and broke character during the show’s cold open to say they’re sorry for being so terrible to each other.
“I’m sorry, Kate. I just hate yelling all this stuff at you like this,” Alec says, pausing his tirade, still dressed as Donald Trump. “Yeah, I know, right? This whole election has been so mean,” Kate says, walking over to Alec, and still dressed as Hillary Clinton.
“I just feel so gross all the time. Don’t you guys feel so gross all the time about this?” Alec asks the audience. Kate and Alec have a realization as Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” plays, and run out the doors of 30 Rock, holding hands. They race through Times Square and hug people that the candidates they’re playing probably wouldn’t hug. The two “candidates” have the time of their lives together, and come back to Studio 8H rejuvenated and united! It’s the palate cleanser we all need after such a contentious election season.
“And now it’s time to get out there and vote. None of this will matter if you don’t vote. And we can’t tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday, we all get the chance to choose what kind of country we all want to live in,” Alec and Kate implore the audience in the studio, and at home. They’re right!
