Fight night is finally here! Jessie Vargas, 27, is set to take on Manny Pacquiao, 37, in the ring on Nov. 5, and it’s definitely going to be an epic fight! Sure, we already know what damage Manny can do to his opponent in the ring, but don’t go placing those bets just yet! There are some things you should know about the underdog, and HollywoodLife.com has you covered!
1. Jessie Vargas is the reigning WBO welterweight champion.
Jessie is already walking into the ring a champion. The professional boxer has held the WBO welterweight champion title since Mar. 2016. That’s incredible! With that being said, Jessie is more than qualified to face off against Manny!
2. He has a 27-1 winning record.
Jessie is almost has an undefeated record! Over the course of his career, the boxer has won 27 total fights and lost only one! He lost in June 2015 against Timothy Bradley, and hasn’t lost a fight since. Now that’s the record of a champion!
3. He’s the underdog in his fight against Pacquiao.
Despite have a winning record, Jessie is still considered an underdog in this case. Many spectators and critics expect Manny to take the victory considering his 58-6 winning record. “People are underestimating my power, and possibly if Manny underestimates my power it’s going to backfire on him,” Vargas said of his fight during a press conference on Nov. 2.
4. Jessie has an interesting nickname.
Jessie has gotten the nickname La Nueva Generacion over the years. The name, which is in Spanish, means The New Generation.
5. Despite all the hate, Jessie is confident he’ll beat Pacquiao
Despite all the chatter, Jessie is determined to come out on top. “I’ve prepared for this moment for so long. It’s the only thing on my mind, every day when I wake up and when I go to sleep,” he said during a press conference, according to Boxing Junkie. And no matter what the critics think, Jessie says he’s confident that he will prove everyone wrong. “On Nov. 5, I’m going to prove you wrong again and show you that I have the talent and I am the best in the division,” he added. “Talk is cheap. I’ll show it with my actions, with my fighting style and I have the right team behind me. You’re going to be surprised with my performance that night, that’s for sure.”
We’ll just have to see if Jessie has what it takes to beat Manny. Jessie and Manny will hop in the ring on Nov. 5, at 9p.m. ET on paper-view.
