Whoa! Before Mariah Carey and James Packer split, they were in the middle of negotiating a super crazy prenup that included provisions for clothing, travel and how much Mariah would be ‘paid’ for each year of marriage. Jeeze. Get all the details on the prenup right here!
Mariah Carey, 46, and James Packer, 49, were in negotiations over an insane prenup that laid out some pretty weird specifics and ultimately totally blew up. Mariah’s people allegedly got the draft from James’ exec, Robert Rankin, and rejected it as “tacky and insulting,” according to TMZ. Well, we can’t argue that much after reading the provisions.
“Except for gifts between them for their engagement, wedding or on birthdays and anniversaries, no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over $250,000 will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating ‘This is my gift to you,'” the draft states. Writing that specifically designates it as a gift? Uh, what? James had agreed to purchase Mariah’s clothes, with a space in the document left blank for them to agree on the max amount he’d pay. However, the clothes he would buy her were not to be used for business or performing. The draft also states that “Mariah shall provide all clothing for her children.”
Then there was the issue of credit. “James shall cause a credit card(s) to be issued for use by Mariah and staff … the amount of expenses … shall not exceed US $____ per calendar month,” the draft read, with the amount left blank. James was also prepared to “provide the use of one private aircraft, of his selection, for Mariah’s personal use, or that of her children and nannies only when James, in his sole discretion, determines it is appropriate to do so.” Thanks?
But, the big deal here ended up being how much each year of marriage was worth if the marriage failed. “James will pay Mariah, and Mariah shall accept, $6 million dollars per year for each full year of marriage, up to a maximum of $30 million … adjusted pro-rata on a weekly basis [$151,385 per week].” But Mariah rejected that amount, saying that James had already agreed to a $50 million lump sum if things didn’t work out, according to TMZ sources.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of James and Mariah’s prenup? Does it seem insane to you?
