Ryan definitely redeemed himself by going on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and I think America forgave him — not only did he make it to week 8 but he got a standing ovation after his final dance.
Ryan Lochte made the wrong kind of headlines when he lied about being robbed in Rio at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Tarnishing his reputation and Americas, he needed to do more than apologize.
His stint on DWTS, which lasted 8 weeks — pretty commendable — humanize him and showed us a new side of the swimmer.
We rarely hear athletes speak about anything other than “what they were thinking in the pool,” so it was nice to see his thought process while learning a new skill.
I think it was pretty cool he went on DWTS. To be honest, if he had just disappeared from the public, in due time, most people would forget about him and his scandal. He’s lost endorsements, been publically shamed and humiliated.
Instead of retreating, he went into the spotlight. He even dealt with protestors early on in the season, who tried to attack him on live TV. That incident would have shaken anyone, but he leaned on his pro partner Cheryl Burke and they got through it together.
Of course, I haven’t forgotten what Ryan did in Rio, but I do think he is trying to win back the trust and admiration of the country. I do believe he is sorry and he regrets what he did. I’m glad we were given the chance to see him dance for 8 weeks and not just 2 or 3.
I think he went home at the exact right time. He isn’t that great of a dancer, to be honest, so it was time, but I was very pleasantly surprised with his journey.
HollywoodLifers, have you forgiven Ryan Lochte? Are you happy he was on DWTS?
