For those of you who have read the comics, you know that King Ezekiel on ‘The Walking Dead’ does end up having a romance — with Michonne. So after the October 30 episode, can we expect that he’ll instead have a romance with Carol?
The chemistry between Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Carol (Melissa McBride) was definitely spotted in last night’s The Walking Dead, but will it be more than a friendship?
“I think he admires her and respects her and I think she admires and respects him as well. Because he gets her and she understands what he’s trying to do. She thinks it’s a little ridiculous what he’s doing, but there’s respect,” Greg Nicotera told Entertainment Weekly. “The fact that Ezekiel shows up at the end, to me, it’s just a sort of a peace offering. She hears the roar of the tiger at the door and opens it and he’s got the pomegranates there. I think it’s Ezekiel’s way of saying, ‘Listen, you need to choose life because there’s no reason to go on living if you’re not gonna embrace humanity.'”
However, Khary was a little more straight forward about why Ezekiel showed up at her door with a pomegranate in that last scene, leading to a little smirk on Carol’s face. “He’s trying to get laid,” he said on Talking Dead after the episode. “You come bearing fruit. He put on a different shirt in a apocalypse. You know how hard it is to get another shirt? There’s not like an outlet store nearby.”
As for Melissa, she’s staying mum about their future. “Well, they’re building something. They’re definitely building something. You never stop building when you’re in the apocalypse,” she told E! “If you’re not running, you’re building.”
