So moving. Legendary sports reporter Craig Sager, who is currently fighting a grueling battle with leukemia, was honored at the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs NBA game on Oct. 25 by fans in a super touching tribute. We have the scoop, here.
Beyond inspiring. Iconic sports reporter Craig Sager, 65, was in for such a special surprise at the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors basketball game at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. Before the game, fans arrived to find white t-shirts of Craig, who is currently battling leukemia, on the backs of their seats. The shirts featured a drawing of the reporter in his usual snazzy attire — a blue and gold ensemble. Not only that, but Warriors officials wore a snazzy red, orange and yellow t-shirt that paid homage to Craig’s colorful, zany suits he’s famous for!

“It’s good to be honoring Craig Sager with our shirts and our fans,” Steve Kerr, a former NBA player and colleauge of Craig’s, told the crowd before the game, “I think you’ll like my tie as well. This night is about opening the season, getting started, but also honoring Craig and raising money for leukemia research.” Gregg Popovic, the Spurs’ coach, also addressed everyone with his own kind words about Craig. “He’s somebody who’s endured more than I can even imagine,” he said. “All the treatment he’s gone through and it seems to go up and down and up and down. He’s high and then he’s dejected because of what’s going on with his health. He’s been through it all and he still smiles, he still jokes, he’s still got a great sense of humor, you can still talk to him about anything. He’s just an iconic and a weird and wonderful guy all at the same time, and I mean that lovingly.”
As we previously reported, the TNT sideline reporter won the Jimmy V Perseverance Award in July 2016 at the ESPY Awards. In 2014, Craig was heartbreakingly diagnosed with leukemia, and has continued to bravely battle it publicly since then. He’s not letting anything stop him, and he even covered the 2016 Olympics in Rio! He’s truly an inspiration.
