It’s likely that Kanye West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ will receive plenty of Grammy nominations this year, but he still might not attend the show. The rapper vowed to skip out on the Grammy Awards is his pal, Frank Ocean, isn’t nominated…even though the rapper already missed the submission deadline!
Kanye West, 39, was performing in Oakland on Oct. 22, when he went on one of his many usual rants, this time expressing his anger toward the Grammys. It’s been reported that, even though Frank Ocean put out two albums this year, he won’t be nominated at the 2017 show because his management didn’t submit his work for recognition before the Sept. 30 deadline — and Yeezy is NOT feelin’ these rules.
“If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys,” Kanye said to the crowd. “The album I listened to the most this year is Frank Ocean’s album. As artists, we gotta come together to fight the bulls*** they been throwing us with. All we need is a fair shot. Let the album lose, let whoever win or lose. My whole point, my whole purpose, my existence, everything that people ry to diss me for, is based on just an instant replay plot.”
‘Ye clearly heard about Frank missing the deadline, but explained that he thinks there should be an exception, just like there was for Lady Gaga, who won Grammys in 2010, despite making the 2009 deadline. “They wanted her to perform at the show, they wanted her to open,” he ranted. “So the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations to nominate her in order to perform at the show. Now, Frank Ocean, on the other hand, is very vocal that his album wasn’t nominated for the Grammys. Since he’s vocal, nobody wants to say nothing about it. No one wants to do nothing about it. I’m saying this to y’all, because a lot of people try to make a scene like I’m so self-centered.”
The Grammy nominations come out on Dec. 8 and the show goes down on Feb. 12.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Kanye will actually boycott the Grammys? Do you think Frank will get a nomination?
