If you’re a ‘Walking Dead’ fan, the season 7 premiere broke your heart in half. Glenn was viciously murdered by Negan, and Maggie had to watch the whole thing. Before he died, Glenn made sure his last words were for Maggie. Lauren Cohan revealed in a post-show interview the meaning of those final 4 words.
Before he got the rest of his head bashed in by Lucille, Glenn uttered these final words to Maggie, “I will find you.” On the post-premiere show Talking Dead on Oct. 23, Lauren Cohan, 34, divulged her thoughts on what they meant. Grab your tissues.
“In this life or the next,” Lauren said. “They’re star-crossed lovers. ‘I’ll find you, I’ll be with you, I’ll watch over you. I’ll be there.’”
Okay, who else is sobbing? Glenn dies in the comics, but it didn’t lessen the hurt of watching him die. Plus, many fans thought the writers would twist the storyline and kill Maggie off instead. Concerning those final words, Steven Yeun, 32, added, “He dies in such a Glenn way. Still not thinking about himself. It’s important the he puts those final words out as a way of saying, ‘Look out for one another.’”
Steven admitted that he thought Glenn’s death was “brave and super affecting.” He told our sister site Variety that the deaths of such iconic characters was “beautifully terrible” and “bittersweet.” You got that right, Steven.
In the months leading up to the season 7 premiere, Steven had to lie to everyone about what was happening. Glenn and Abraham’s deaths were two of the best-kept secrets. They may be gone, but they’ll never be forgotten. The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
