The beginning of the end is here, and it’s not pretty. Read our full recap of the season eight premiere of ‘The Vampire Diaries.’
Everyone is in a bad place right now: Stefan and Caroline are still hot and heavy, but are endlessly searching for Damon, Alaric is running the armory while his hot nanny takes care of the twins, and Bonnie is going mad without Enzo (and even more mad when her guitar string breaks, ugh!). Even Damon and Enzo have lost their own control and are spending their lives feeding the beast with innocent bodies. Actually it’s just Enzo having a hard time; Damon’s flipped his humanity switch. (Or “ripped it off the wall,” as he put it.)
Caroline and Alaric’s twins were also a target for some reason — Virginia showed up and slit Seline, the new nanny’s throat to try to get to them. Luckily Caroline came in time to save her and question Virginia. Well not really question her; after knocking her out, Virginia woke up just long enough to tell her that the monster had come for them and they never should have opened. Then she died, after spitting out her own tongue.
Bonnie and Stefan finally found Damon and Enzo, who were not so pleased to see them. Enzo actually told Stefan that Damon would kill Bonnie if they didn’t go. It was clear that neither of them were themselves anymore — so much so that even the mention of Elena didn’t matter, and he said he actually didn’t care about her. So they left, breaking both of their hearts, once again. But Enzo wanted her to find out what was keeping them, and he left clues for her so she could find out whatever evil it was that was taking over. And we did see that monster at the very end — a siren, who may have claws, but is still pretty beautiful for a spawn of evil.
The letters to Elena also continued — the group had decided they’d take turns writing to her; it was Bonnie’s turn, but Stefan had to write to her too after seeing Damon. He told Elena that he feared Damon was too far gone this time, and hoped that he had one memory he could keep with him. With that, we flashed back to when Damon first met Elena, thinking she was Katherine. Ahh, the good old days.
At least we got something that monster couldn’t kill — Steroline. She decided to move in to his house after the attack that targeted the twins, that way Alaric could live in her house. That’s something, right?
