The Met Gala officially has its co-chairs for 2017! Although the event is seven months away, its been revealed that Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams will serve as chairs for the big night in fashion. Congrats!
The theme of the 2017 Met Gala will surround honorary chair Rei Kawakubo’s designs along with “Art of the In-Between,” making this the “first monographic show on a living designer” since 1983, when there was an Yves Saint Laurent exhibit.
It’s interesting timing for Katy Perry, 31, to be a co-chair though — because it’s going down just ONE year after the singer’s public nemesis, Taylor Swift, 26, held the same position! Tay and Idris Elba were co-chairs at the 2016 Manus x Machina gala, so obviously there will be major comparisons about which singer did the job best.
Despite Taylor’s position as co-chair, Katy still attended the Met Ball in 2016 and totally turned heads in an insane black gown with crazy gold embellishments. Taylor nailed the theme, too, with platinum blonde hair, a short silver dress, thigh-high strappy heels and dark purple lipstick. Since the 26-year-old arrived in the very beginning and Katy didn’t show up until later on, they managed to avoid each other at the event.
It’s now been two years since the feud between these two female powerhouses went public. In case you forgot, it all began when Taylor explained that the song “Bad Blood” from 1989 was about a ruined friendship, and it didn’t take long for the public to dig and figure out Katy was the subject. Things have escalated since then, with Katy dissing Tay in her 2015 Super Bowl performance and Taylor creating a buzzed-about video with her girl squad for “Bad Blood.” And it certainly doesn’t seem like they’ll end the feud anytime soon!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Katy is a good choice to co-chair the Met Gala?
