Well, that was basically perfection! Thomas Rhett was honored at CMT’s Artists of the Year ceremony in 2016, and to celebrate, he took the stage with Zara Larsson to perform an incredible mash-up of each of their biggest hits. SO good!
Thomas Rhett’s “Die A Happy Man” was one of the BIGGEST country songs of the past year, so it’s no surprise that he chose to sing the romantic ballad, written for his wife, Lauren, while being honored at CMT Artists of the Year. But he didn’t go at it alone! He had some help from Swedish star Zara Larsson, who joined him for a mash-up of the No. 1 hit and her song “Never Forget You.” Whatever genius decided to put these songs together needs an award of their own — SO good!
This was Thomas’ first year being honored at the event, and he’s in good company: The other honorees are Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line! Additionally, Shania Twain took home the Lifetime Achievement Award, while Kelsea Ballerini was given the Breakout Artist of the Year honor, so it was certainly a great night for country music fans.
It’s no surprise that Thomas was recognized this year, either — “Die A Happy Man” still gives listeners ALL the feels, and his follow-up singles, “T-Shirt” and “Vacation,” also killed it on the charts. Plus, he’s been on tour with Jason Aldean all year long, and fans have been absolutely loving the show. We cannot WAIT to see what this guy does next!
And if you’re not familiar with Zara, start paying attention! The Swedish singer is quickly making a name for herself in the United Staes…and we can only imagine that she won over the country music community after tonight. What do you guys think!?
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Thomas and Zara’s performance? Would you download this mash-up?
