We need tissues! CMT Artist Of The Year recipient Luke Bryan took the stage with Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and left the crowd with glistening eyes after a gripping, beautiful performance of their song ‘Home Alone Tonight.’ Read more about their incredible act!
Luke Bryan, 40, and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild, 47, celebrated Luke’s 5-year CMT Artist of The Year winning streak with a performance of their hit “Home Alone Tonight” on Oct. 19. The jaw-dropping, live performance was chills-worthy and had the crowd singing along.
Part of Luke’s 2015 album Kill The Lights, ‘Home Alone Tonight’ became his 13th consecutive number one country music single on Country Airplay. The heart-wrenching ballad has also been consistently performed on the Kill The Lights tour, which is perfect…since Little Big Town is the opening act!
“I’m proud that I got to have a success with a duet. I mean, Karen Fairchild getting to be a part of ‘Home Alone Tonight’ was pretty special,” Luke told CMT. His other No. 1 hits that earned him his fifth Artist of The Year title include “Kick The Dust Up,” “Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’ Everyday,” and “Strip It Down.”
After five years as Artist of the Year, Luke said, “Now, I’m in the point of my career where I’m like, ‘Please let me in there!’ (laughs) Please keep me working!’ I gotta keep fooling people.” Yaaaa, right, Luke.
Two years ago, however, Luke was notably absent from the CMT Artists of the Year show after the passing of his brother-in-law. The Georgia-native has suffered a number of public losses throughout his life, after losing his brother in a car accident in 1996 and his sister suddenly passed away in 2007. He and his wife, Caroline Boyer, are now raising his sister’s children. Much of Luke’s music, like his ballad “Drink A Beer,” is based on this loss.
““If me telling my story moves people down a positive path of hope and getting up out of the bed and getting back going, then, you know, it’s certainly worth telling,” he told ABC News.
This year, Karen and her Little Big Town bandmates – Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet – presented Luke with the Artist of the Year award. No speech is complete without poking a little fun, though, and the band joked about Luke’s recent biking accident which resulted in a broken clavicle — LOL!
Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Thomas Rhett, and Florida Georgia Line were also honored with Artist of the Year awards and performed their own hits on the country-filled evening. The woman of the night, however, was “Queen of Country,” Shania Twain, 51, who received the Artist Of A Lifetime award.
It’s safe to say that Luke is well on his way to achieving the Artist Of A Lifetime title. Until then, we’ll sit back, drink a cold one and watch him become a country legend.
Hollywoodlifers, what did you think of Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild’s performance of “Home Alone Tonight?” Do you love the song?
