The Internet is having a field day with this one! In a discussion about immigration during the final presidential debate, Donald Trump said the phrase ‘big league,’ but most viewers misheard it as ‘bigly’ — and they tore him apart on Twitter over it!
“We have billions of people that did it the right way,” Donald Trump, 70, said, regarding deportation and immigration on Oct. 19. “They’re in line, they’re waiting. We’re gonna speed up the process, big league, because it’s very inefficient.”
‘Big League’ is actually a phrase the Republican candidate uses quite often, but many often hear it as “bigly,” and it was no different during the debate. Immediately, Google blew up with people searching the word, and it quickly became a trending topic on Twitter. Users hilariously poked fun at Donald because they thought they had used a word that isn’t real — and you have to see some of the tweets:
It was great to watch and learn from two intelligent minds debating over important matters. My vocab has improved bigly. #UsElections2016

Actually, bigly is a word — it means “with great force or violently or strongly” or ” boastfully, haughty or proudly,” according to Merriam-Webster dictionary editor Kory Stamper via The Hollywood Reporter. Of course, the word is not widely used, and a Trump campaign source confirmed to People that the 70-year-old was saying “big league” during the debate, but the whole thing has certainly sparked some hilarious tweets!
Meanwhile, Donald has actually used the phrase “big league” several times in the past, and it’s been an ongoing debate if he’s saying that or “bigly.” However, this debate was obviously the biggest platform we’ve seen him do it on so far, which is why so many people are talking about it this time around.
HollywoodLifers, did you think Donald was saying ‘bigly’? Or did you totally know he was saying ‘big league’ the whole time?
