Bayern was expected to power through Group D and easily make it to the Round of 16. Yet, after getting beat by Atletico Madrid, 1-0, the German squad needs to make up for lost ground. They also need to figure out how to beat Atletico, as Gabi’s, 33, and the rest of the squad eliminated Bayern in the 2015-16 Champions League semi-finals.
Many are worried that the Bundesliga squad is in trouble, especially when they followed up their initial Champions League loss with a pair of draws to Cologne and Eingtract Frankfurt. “I think it’s too early to talk about crisis,” manager Carlo Ancelotti said, per ESPN. “We started the season very well and won all our games.”
Der FCB will be without Franck Ribery, 33, as he’s nursing a muscle injury. However, Douglas Costa, 26, Robert Lewandowski, 28, and Holger Badstuber, 27, could return to the starting line-up. Even with this good news, the squad is not taking any chances.
“[This game is] at home,” defender Mats Hummels, 27, said. “We know we are favorites but we’re not so happy with our performances recently and we know [this game] won’t be easy.” Though, PSV hasn’t won a Champions League match since 2007-08, so that might mean the odds are in Bayern’s favor. Still, the Boeren are unbeaten in 22 away games. Yikes.
Who do you think will win this game, HollywoodLifers? Are you backing Bayern Munich to win not just the game but also the Champions League? Or do you think PSV Eindhoven will pull off an upset?
