Professional Football Club Ludogorets Razgrad (aka Ludogorets aka The Eagles) are the second Bulgarian team to make the Champion League (after Levski Sofia.) They arrived in the 2014-15 season when they became the first Bulgarian squad to actually score points in the group stages. Going into this game, they’re practically tied with FC Basel at the bottom of Group A, three points behind both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
So the rookies to the Champions League are not expected to put up much of a fight for Arsenal. Yet, the Gunners can’t afford to sleep on the Eagles. After playing to a 1-1 draw against PSG, Arsenal recovered to pull out a 2-0 win over FC Basel. If Ludogorets pulls out an upset or turns this into a high-scoring match, it could spell doom for Arsene Wegner’s, 66, squad.
“It’s a massive game, especially as it is at home,” Francis Coquelin, 25, said ahead of the match, per Sky Sports. “We know we’re going to have two more tough games away too, against Ludogorets and Basel, plus a home game against Paris Saint-Germain. So it’s massively important to get the three points [today].”
This is the first time these teams have ever met – in history. In fact, Arsenal has never faced a team from Bulgaria. The only other English team to face Ludogorets was Liverpool (in the 2014-15 Champions League group stage.) The Reds won the first game, 2-1, before playing to a 2-2 draw. So, going into this game, anything can happen.
Will PFC Loduogorets pull off an upset, HollywoodLifers? Or do you think Arsenal will unload and maintain their lead in the Champions League group?
